Telephone
Line Protector (T.L.P.)
The Telephone Line Protector (TLP) is a module designed for Over-Current
and Over-Voltage protection. Suitable for POTS, ISDN and ADSL services.
The main advantage of Kipriotis TLP is that it uses ceramic PTC technology
for self resetting. That means that in case of an over current, PTC’s
operate like resettable fuses. As current increases, the temperature
inside the PTC increases. Once the temperature reaches a pre-determined
set point, the resistance rises exponentially, eliminating the fault
current. A trickle current flows keeping the device in high resistance
mode. Once the fault is cleared the PTC cools and continues to work as it
reverts to its original resistance.
Therefore, there is no need for a technician’s intervention when an over
current event occurs.
Also with the help of ceramic PTC technology, there are no imbalance
problems, common with polymer PTC technology, which are particularly
detrimental to DSL circuits.
Furthermore, Kipriotis TLP, uses a hybrid technology, combining GDT
technology with Solid State Clamping devices giving:
• Lower Let-Through than GDT alone
• High Impulse Discharge Capability
• Fast Reaction Time
Design Criteria
The Telephone Line Protector fulfils a number of important design
criteria. These are:
• It appears invisible to all voltages and
frequencies required for all operation on the transmission line.
• The module’s Series Impedance is kept to a minimum
• Line Balance is always maintained
